Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of Oyo State following security concerns in communities surrounding the Old Oyo National Park.
The curfew, which begins on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, will be observed from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily and will remain in place for an initial 48-hour period.
The announcement was contained in a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the declaration of a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state,” the statement said.
It further stated, “The curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for 48 hours in the first instance.”
According to the government, the decision was taken to address security threats and ensure the safety of residents in affected communities.
“The curfew affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park,” the statement added.
The affected councils are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
Residents have been urged to comply with the directive and cooperate with security operatives deployed to enforce the restriction, while the government said it would review the situation after the initial 48-hour period and issue further directives where necessary.
