Security personnel have reportedly apprehended more than 100 people suspected of being brought into Osun State to participate in Saturday’s governorship election.
The group was allegedly found with newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and had reportedly been accommodated at the residence of Hon. Abiola Ibrahim, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Irewole-Isokan Constituency.
Footage circulating online showed the suspected voters being questioned by security operatives, who sought explanations for their presence at the lawmaker’s residence and their alleged purpose in the state.
During the questioning, Ibrahim reportedly acknowledged that the individuals had been staying at his home. He was also said to have explained that they were in Osun to cast their ballots for the Accord Party.
The reported arrests come at a time of increased political tension across the state, with various political stakeholders making allegations of intimidation, violence, arrests and other forms of electoral malpractice ahead of the governorship poll.
