Chief Sir Joseph Ebere Ezeokafor, the chairman of Jezco Group of Companies and father of popular social media figure Jowi Zaza, has been released after spending several days with his abductors.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that Ezeokafor and a Rev Sister who were kidnapped by armed men at Ifite-Awka had both been freed and returned safely.
The police said security agencies were working to establish how the victims secured their release while gathering useful details that could aid the investigation into the abduction.
Ezeokafor, who is in his seventies, was reportedly taken away in the early hours of Tuesday while travelling to a prayer ground in Awka.
He was said to have been released late Friday and was later collected by a relative at Ebenebe, near the Anambra-Enugu boundary.
A family source expressed relief over the development, saying relatives were “understandably ecstatic” to have him back.
“Thank God, the septuagenarian is free at last,” the source said.
Another person familiar with the matter confirmed that a family member picked Ezeokafor up at Ebenebe following his release.
