Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has denied reports linking him to an alleged $75,000 romance scam, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The actor reacted after reports alleged that he was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside the FBI over a romance scam involving an American woman.
Responding to the allegations, Ogbonna insisted he has no connection to any internet fraud or criminal activity and condemned the reports as baseless.
“This report is completely false, malicious, and without any factual basis. I don’t support or participate in any form of internet fraud, romance scams, or any other fraudulent activity.
“Unfortunately, this is not the first time my name, image, and identity have been used by unknown individuals operating fake social media accounts to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
I have never authorized anyone to represent me online, solicit money on my behalf, or engage in private conversations pretending to be me.
“Please remain vigilant and be extremely careful of impersonators and catfish accounts that exploit my identity to scam unsuspecting people,” he wrote.
The reports claimed the allegations were based on a complaint filed by a 49-year-old American woman, Kimberly Ann, who alleged she had been communicating with someone posing as the actor since 2025 and lost $75,000 in the process.
Ogbonna, however, maintained that he has no involvement in the allegations and urged the public to be wary of fake social media accounts created by fraudsters impersonating celebrities to scam unsuspecting victims.
