The Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would withdraw from Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ticket and support President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for N600 per litre.

Amaechi made the statement on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday while challenging the Federal Government’s claim that lower fuel prices would lead to reductions in transportation and living costs.

The former Rivers State governor questioned whether commuters were already benefiting from the government’s claimed reduction in transportation costs, using the Nyanya-Abuja route as an example.

“Every day he repeats the same thing. He said by October 1, the price of transport would come down. Check the cost of transport from Nyanya to Abuja; has anything come down? Has anything changed?” he said.

Amaechi then challenged the government to bring petrol prices down to N600 per litre, saying he would publicly campaign for Tinubu if that happened.

“If fuel has come down to N600 tomorrow, I will campaign for President Tinubu. If you doubt, come with your camera to my house in the morning. I will go to the filling station and buy fuel,” he said.

He further stated that he would withdraw from the ADC presidential ticket and back Tinubu if petrol reaches the stated price.

“If it comes down to N600, I, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will withdraw as the Vice Presidential candidate of Atiku and campaign for President Tinubu,” he added.
