Arsenal saw their Premier League title charge take a serious hit after suffering a shock home defeat to AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

The loss denied Arsenal the chance to open up a commanding 12-point gap at the top of the table ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Chelsea.

Manager Mikel Arteta had urged fans to create a strong atmosphere for what he described as a crucial game, especially after recent exits from both domestic cup competitions. However, it was Bournemouth who settled quicker and took control early on.

The visitors struck first when Junior Kroupi reacted fastest to turn in a deflected cross from Adrien Truffert at close range.

Arsenal responded and found their way back into the match after being awarded a penalty, which Viktor Gyokeres converted following a handball by Ryan Christie.

With tension rising inside the stadium, Arteta introduced fresh attacking options, bringing on Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard and teenage prospect Max Dowman in a bid to swing the game.

Despite the changes, Bournemouth delivered the decisive moment. Evanilson set up Alex Scott, who struck from the edge of the box to beat David Raya and seal a famous victory.

The result extends Bournemouth’s impressive unbeaten run in the league and leaves Arsenal under pressure. While they remain top, they have now played more matches than Manchester City, with a crucial trip to face Pep Guardiola’s side looming next.
