Mike Ezuruonye has opened up about a period in his career when he stepped away from Nollywood after feeling mentally drained, saying he had completely lost the drive to continue working.
The actor disclosed this while celebrating the birthday of his colleague Nosa Rex, popularly known as Babarex, on Instagram, where he reflected on how he went silent and disengaged from the industry.
“There was a moment I was done mentally checked out, left Nollywood behind,” he wrote.
He explained that the exhaustion got to the point where he stopped responding to calls from filmmakers and industry contacts, not out of pride, but because he felt overwhelmed.
“I wasn’t even picking calls from producers and directors cos I felt drained, not out of weakness, but because sometimes even the strongest get exhausted.”
During that period, he said Nosa Rex played a major role in pulling him back by refusing to accept his withdrawal from acting and constantly encouraging him to return.
“No bro… no way,” Mike recalled him saying. “Your talent is too much to disappear. You’re needed here.”
Mike also appreciated the care shown by Nosa Rex’s wife, noting that she made sure he was being taken care of even during his low moment.
“Even at a point in my state of mental floatation, his wife, my sister, Nma made sure always I was eating well as her food from their house always made it to my kitchen,” he added.
He went on to describe Nosa Rex as someone he deeply respects, praising him as “solid, gifted, kind, and built for greatness.”
