Suspected bandits on Sunday attacked an ECWA Church in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during service.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the church while prayers were ongoing, creating panic as they rounded up victims and fled the scene.
A joint team of security operatives, alongside local vigilantes and forest guards, quickly mobilised in response to the attack, leading to the rescue of three abducted worshippers.
Sources within the Kwara South Joint Security Watch disclosed that at least seven persons were initially taken by the assailants, although details surrounding the incident are still sketchy.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed the development, commending the swift and coordinated intervention of security agencies which helped repel the attackers and secure the release of some victims.
She added that security forces have been directed to intensify operations to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining abductees and bring those responsible to justice.
Olukoju also condemned the attack on the church, describing it as unacceptable and stressing that violence against places of worship would not be tolerated.
