A Canada-based Nigerian, Idris Olajide Oladejo, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference following allegations that he sexually assaulted a child inside a grocery store in Toronto.
According to the Toronto Police Service (TPS), the 35-year-old was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, after investigators identified him as the suspect in the incident.
Police said the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, June 21, at about 7 p.m. in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area of Toronto.
Investigators stated that the child was shopping with their parents when the alleged assault took place. They added that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident but was chased by a member of the public.
Following the report, the Toronto Police released a description of the suspect and appealed to residents for information that could assist with the investigation.
In an update, the police confirmed that Oladejo had been arrested and charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
The suspect was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on June 23, 2026.
The Toronto Police noted that a sexual assault includes any form of unwanted sexual contact.
The charges against Oladejo remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
