Former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has officially announced his retirement from professional football, ending a distinguished career that lasted two decades.
The experienced defender confirmed his decision in an emotional message shared on social media, admitting it was difficult to put his feelings into words as he stepped away from the game.
Azpilicueta enjoyed a successful career across Europe, playing for Osasuna, Marseille, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla, while also representing Spain at international level, where he earned 45 caps and featured in major tournaments.
He is best remembered for his long spell at Chelsea F.C., where he spent 11 years after joining in 2012 and became one of the club’s most reliable and respected players.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 508 appearances and won every major trophy available, leaving behind a legacy as one of Chelsea’s modern greats.
