Grammy-nominated singer Ayra Starr has opened up about why she avoided relationships during her school years, saying it was a conscious decision to protect how she would later be perceived in the public eye.
The 23-year-old Mavin Records artiste explained that she deliberately stayed single while growing up because she didn’t want her romantic history to become public talking points after achieving fame.
Speaking in an interview with Quenlin Blackwell, Ayra Starr said she was very cautious at the time and often questioned the intentions of those who tried to get close to her.
According to her, many of the attention she received felt suspicious, and she preferred to focus on herself instead of getting involved in relationships.
“I didn’t date in high school because I didn’t want to be anybody’s ex. I knew a lot of guys were trying, and I was like, why are you trying That means you must have an ulterior motive,” she said.
