A Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Arinze Onwumelu, has advised singer Portable to undergo a brain scan after his celebrity boxing match with skit maker Carter Efe, which he lost in Lagos over the weekend.

The exhibition fight, which generated widespread attention online, ended with Portable being defeated, sparking fresh conversations across social media.

In a video and post shared online on Monday, Onwumelu, also known as Dr Zo, expressed concern over the level of impact sustained during the bout and called for urgent medical checks.

He recommended that Portable undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to rule out possible internal head injuries.

According to him, some of the punches landed by Carter Efe appeared to have targeted sensitive areas of the head, which could pose serious health risks.

“This is an exhibition match meant for entertainment, not a real fight to harm anyone. The contenders are not expected to fight to that extent.

“Or does it mean Efe didn’t get the memo or wasn’t properly informed? I watched the whole video; the kind of punches he delivered means Portable may never recover from them.

“Anybody who knows Portable should take him to the hospital for MRI and brain test; there may be an artery that might have been damaged,” he said.

He also advised organisers of celebrity boxing events to prioritise safety in future editions by ensuring participants wear proper protective gear such as headguards to prevent serious injuries.
