Former Big Brother Africa housemate Tayo Faniran has defended the soldiers reportedly arrested for working as security personnel at the wedding of content creators Peller and Jarvis, arguing that economic hardship is forcing many Nigerians into difficult choices.
Reacting to the reports, Faniran said the soldiers should not be condemned, insisting that hunger has made many people compromise on what would normally be considered proper conduct.
He also argued that if not for the fear many citizens have of the military, political leaders would be more accountable to the people. According to him, genuine change in Nigeria would begin when uniformed personnel stand with ordinary citizens.
He wrote:
“Nobody should blame the Soldiers doing bouncers for civilians, na hunger dey make everybody lose steeze, ‘respect the uniform’ make dem die of starvation? I’m happy it’s going that way for them though, because if not for the fear of what the Army will do to the people, every political leader for respect themselves and fear the people, the day Nigeria will be liberated, the revolution will start from the uniform men.”
