Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has carried out another minor reshuffle of his cabinet, redeploying four commissioners to new ministries.
The Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Benin City.
According to Ikhilor, the affected commissioners and their new portfolios are Dr Felix Ehiguese Akhabue, who was redeployed from the Ministry of Water Resources to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Barrister Vincent Osas Uwadiae was moved from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to the Ministry of Water Resources.
Hon. Andrew Momodu was redeployed from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy back to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources, while Prof Omorodion Ikponmwosa was moved from the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources to the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
The SSG said the redeployment takes immediate effect and is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen governance, improve service delivery and promote greater efficiency in the management of state affairs.
Governor Okpebholo urged the affected commissioners to deploy their experience and expertise in their respective new positions while remaining committed to the administration’s SHINE Agenda for the sustainable development of Edo State.
The latest cabinet shake-up marks the fourth time the governor has reshuffled his cabinet in 2026.
On January 30, 2026, Okpebholo carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle in which his Chief of Staff, Chief Gani Audu, was redeployed to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources as commissioner-designate.
Audu’s appointment was subject to screening and confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly, which had not taken place as of the time of the report. He was subsequently replaced as Chief of Staff by Hon. Yakubu Oshiorenua Musa, who was then the Commissioner for Lands and Housing.
Barrister Vincent Osas Uwadiae was also affected by the January reshuffle, having been moved from the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources to the Ministry of Lands and Housing as commissioner.
Another cabinet adjustment followed on April 6, 2026, when the governor redeployed the then Commissioner for Works, Felix Akhabue, to the Ministry of Water Resources.
The governor directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works to oversee the ministry pending the appointment of a new commissioner.
Since Akhabue’s redeployment, no substantive commissioner has reportedly been appointed to the Ministry of Works, which remains under the supervision of the Permanent Secretary, Engr. John Obanor.
On August 13, 2026, Okpebholo also reinstated Prof Omorodion Ignatius Ikponmwosa, who had been suspended on July 20 alongside the State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (LPRES) Project, Mrs Ikpikhumi Betsy Aghaku, over alleged official infractions.
Following his reinstatement, Ikponmwosa was redeployed to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources, while Hon. Ohimai Ehijimetor was moved from the Ministry of Communications to the Ministry of Livestock Development as commissioner.
The latest changes further highlight the Edo State Government’s ongoing adjustments to its cabinet as the administration seeks to improve coordination and efficiency across its ministries.
