Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde reportedly had to receive hospital treatment after an altercation with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni following a training session on Thursday, according to multiple Spanish media reports.

The Uruguay international was said to have suffered a facial injury that required stitches and was taken to a medical facility near the club’s Valdebebas training complex. He was reportedly accompanied by coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

The incident is believed to have been the result of tensions that began during Wednesday’s training session between both players, before spilling over into Thursday’s practice and continuing afterwards.

Spanish outlet Marca reported that Valverde’s injury was not caused by a direct punch from Tchouameni, but occurred unintentionally during the scuffle.

Both Real Madrid and representatives of the players have not commented on the reports when contacted.

Media accounts in Spain also claim the situation escalated after Valverde allegedly refused to shake Tchouameni’s hand during training and later fouled him, before the disagreement carried into the dressing room where the clash intensified.
