The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

In the statement, Tunji-Ojo congratulated workers across the country, commending their dedication, hard work, and contributions to national development. He said their efforts remain vital to Nigeria’s growth and economic progress.

He also urged workers to remain committed to patriotism, productivity, and diligence in their duties, stressing that these values are essential for sustainable national development.

The minister further reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and security of workers, as well as creating an enabling environment for economic growth.
