A fire outbreak caused panic at the National Assembly on Wednesday after flames were reported in the Senate wing of the complex.
The incident occurred at Hearing Room 107, where proceedings were ongoing within the complex.
A video from the scene showed staff members responding quickly with fire extinguishers in an effort to contain the situation before it spread further.
The fire reportedly broke out shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, nominee for the North-East representative on the commission’s board.
There were no reported injuries or casualties as of the time of filing this report.
Preliminary reports from TVC suggested that the fire may have been triggered by a microwave left switched on in a kitchen area within the facility.
In the aftermath of the incident, journalists covering the proceedings were allegedly asked by committee officials to delete photographs and video recordings taken at the scene.
