A case of Ebola virus disease has been confirmed in France after a doctor who recently returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive, the French Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
The infection marks the first confirmed case of the deadly haemorrhagic fever detected outside Africa during the current outbreak, which has also spread to Uganda.
It is also the first time Ebola has ever been recorded in France, raising concerns among health authorities as they work to trace contacts and prevent any further transmission.
