French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Nigeria for a state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between both countries.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during France’s National Day celebration in Abuja by the French Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Marc Fonbaustier.
According to the ambassador, Macron’s visit will come two years after President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Paris. He said the two leaders will review the progress made under their bilateral cooperation roadmap and set new priorities for future collaboration.
Fonbaustier said, “I am pleased and honored to announce that, two years after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s State visit to Paris, the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, will travel to Nigeria for another State visit.
“Together, our two Presidents will assess the progress of our roadmap and outline the key elements of our relationship for the years to come. These will undoubtedly be ambitious and mutually beneficial for our two peoples.”
The ambassador described the France-Nigeria relationship as one built on equality, mutual respect and non-interference, stressing that both countries work together as equal partners.
He added that France and Nigeria are collaborating on several areas, including agriculture, food security, job creation and sustainable development, with support from the French Development Agency (AFD) on projects designed to improve agricultural value chains and expand market access across Nigeria.
