Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up on her decision to stop attending church, citing the constant attention she receives whenever she shows up.

According to her, the experience gradually became uncomfortable as congregants focused more on taking photos of her than on the service itself. “I stopped going to church because every time I go people focus on taking my pictures.”

She explained that the situation made it difficult to stay engaged during worship, as the atmosphere no longer felt peaceful or personal.

Her remarks highlight the downside of fame, particularly in spaces meant for quiet reflection, where public figures often struggle to blend in.

Akindele, however, did not indicate if she plans to resume attending church in the future, suggesting she is still navigating how to maintain privacy in such settings.
