A 100-level Cybersecurity student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has reportedly died following an alleged assault by members of the Man O’ War group over accusations of stealing ₦13,000.
According to reports, the student was accused of taking the money and was subsequently detained by the cadets. He was allegedly subjected to hours of punishment during the process.
He was later said to have become unresponsive and was confirmed dead, a development that has sparked anger among students and renewed concerns over the activities of disciplinary and security groups on campus.
The incident has triggered calls for a full investigation, with many demanding accountability and a review of how such groups operate within tertiary institutions.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement as investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and those involved.
