Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks throughout the state.
The directive was announced on Thursday in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council presided over by the governor.
Alimi explained that the decision followed the council’s assessment of the state’s security situation. As part of the measures, Governor Adeleke instructed the police to stop the collection of levies by the NURTW in all motor parks across Osun.
The governor also ordered security agencies to arrest anyone claiming to be an NURTW official or executive while carrying out union-related activities at any motor park.
According to Adeleke, security personnel should prevent the union from operating in the parks without shutting down transport activities. He warned that anyone who violates the directive should be arrested and prosecuted for actions capable of disrupting public peace.
To strengthen enforcement, the governor approved the immediate deployment of a rapid response team comprising all security agencies operating in the state.
The statement added that security chiefs at the meeting pledged their full support in implementing the governor’s directive.
