The family of late Oyo schoolteacher Michael Oyedokun has broken its silence following his tragic killing by terrorists, describing the incident as a devastating and irreplaceable loss.
Oyedokun was reportedly among the teachers and students abducted during an attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, on May 15. Days after the kidnapping, a disturbing video allegedly showing his killing surfaced online.
Speaking to Sahara Reporters, a family member, Ebeni Adediran, said the deceased dedicated over two decades of his life to teaching and was widely respected for his peaceful and humble personality.
“He was a good man in our family and this is why his death is a big loss to us, an irreplaceable loss. His death is painful. We can’t even describe his death.”
The relative revealed that one of the family’s greatest pains is that the late teacher died without having children despite being married for more than 10 years.
“And the most painful part is that he did not leave any child behind. He had a wife but they did not have any child. They had been married for more than 10 years and despite all their efforts, no child came out of the marriage. And now the same man has died and there is no child to continue his lineage.”
The grieving family also pleaded with the public to stop sharing the graphic videos and images connected to the incident, saying the repeated circulation online has continued to worsen their trauma.
“We truly appreciate the love, concern, and sympathy shown towards our family during this painful time. However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family.”
According to the family, relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones have remained emotionally shattered by the tragic loss and the constant appearance of the disturbing content on social media.
