Suspected hoodlums reportedly attacked a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution centre at Oyinlola DC School in Okuku, Osun State, making away with several packs of voter cards during the exercise.
The incident happened on Sunday at the ward collation centre, where officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were issuing PVCs to registered voters.
The attack caused panic among residents and disrupted the exercise, as people at the venue fled for safety.
A resident, identified simply as Gbadebo, said the attackers entered the premises unnoticed before firing gunshots into the air. He explained that they headed directly to where INEC officials had kept the PVCs and escaped with some packs of the cards.
According to him, about eight hoodlums carried out the operation.
Reacting to the incident, the Osun State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, strongly condemned the attack.
The police also announced that a full investigation had been ordered to identify, arrest and prosecute everyone involved in the incident.
