The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has revealed that he knew he and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would not win the election even before the results were officially announced.

Okowa made the disclosure at a recent event in his home state, Delta, where he reflected on the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

The former Delta State governor said his assessment of the political climate at the time was clear enough for him to have predicted the eventual outcome to Christian leaders before Nigerians went to the polls.

“I knew we would not win the election. And even when I met with the Christian leaders, I told them that APC will win, while PDP will come second and then Labour Party will come third,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2023 presidential election, with Atiku Abubakar of the PDP finishing second and Peter Obi of the Labour Party placing third.
