Sadness has enveloped the Kannywood movie industry following the death of popular veteran actress Wasila Isma’il at the age of 46.
According to reports, the actress passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, after battling a long-term illness. Her death was confirmed by her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, through a social media post.
“Innalillahi Wainna Ilaihirrajiun. Wasila Isma’il is dead. She died at the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria Hospital, Kaduna,” he wrote.
He also disclosed that she had been ill for an extended period before her passing.
Wasila Isma’il was widely known in the Hausa film industry for her outstanding roles in numerous Kannywood productions. She started her acting career in 1998 with Jinin Masoya and later became a household name after appearing in the movie Wasila in 1999.
The late actress is survived by her children.
Since news of her death surfaced online, fans and fellow actors have continued to pay tribute to her, celebrating her legacy and contributions to Kannywood.
