Afrobeats singer BNXN has opened up about his decision to move to the United States, saying he finds life there less stressful and, in some ways, more affordable than living in Lagos.
During a TikTok livestream, the singer, whose real name is Daniel Benson, compared daily life in Los Angeles and Lagos, arguing that the cost of living in Nigeria’s economic hub is surprisingly high.
BNXN said one of the biggest differences he has noticed is the absence of constant requests for money from strangers, despite the fact that many people in the US are also facing economic challenges.
“I was telling someone, since I got to the United States, nobody has asked me to give them money. And people are also suffering here. Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles,” he said.
The singer explained that although rent in Los Angeles is costly, he believes many other expenses are easier to manage compared to Lagos.
“Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive. For instance, I am paying $12,000 monthly for my rent. Here you just pay your rent, and you’re good,” he added.
According to BNXN, the relative sense of security and reduced day-to-day pressures have contributed to his positive experience since relocating to the United States.
