The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced that it has successfully reached a fresh agreement with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, bringing an end to speculation surrounding his future with the national team.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko revealed the development during a meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, which was attended by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau and other football stakeholders.

Chelle, whose initial two-year contract was set to run out at the end of 2026, has now secured improved terms under the new arrangement. As part of the agreement, the NFF will assume responsibility for paying members of his technical crew, a cost reportedly borne by the coach himself under the previous deal.

“I can confirm to you that we have reached a new term with the coach. We are going to increase his money and also take care of his assistants who are helping him. And there are other benchmarks that we have put on the table, and I’m sure the coach will be very excited about it,” Dikko said.

In addition to continuing with the senior national team, Chelle has been tasked with overseeing Nigeria’s U-23 men’s side as part of plans to strengthen the country’s football development pathway.

“We have also discussed how we can build for the future. In that aspect, we also agree with the coach and the NFF that the coach should take care of the U-23 national team,” Dikko added.

Details regarding the duration of the new contract and its financial terms were not made public.
