Nigerian singer Orezi has reacted to the newly approved 150 cut-off mark for university admissions announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), expressing concern over what he described as a decline in educational standards.

JAMB recently fixed 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2026 academic session during its policy meeting in Abuja.

Reacting via his Instagram page, Orezi said he was shocked by the new benchmark, comparing it to the requirements during his own admission process years ago.

“What is happening?

“A decline in education?

“I scored 224 in jamb back then and my chances of getting admission into unilag was 30%

“Finnaly got it… even though I didn’t get my first choice of study

“Crazy … 150 cut off mark This kids no Dey read again oo lol

“Too low mehn,” he wrote.

The singer’s comment has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether the reduced benchmark reflects falling educational standards or an attempt to make tertiary education more accessible to candidates across the country.
