Singer Peter Okoye, aka Mr P, has fired back at trolls who a.ttacked him after he expressed pride in his children’s ability to speak French while on vacation in Paris.
The singer had earlier shared that watching his children communicate fluently in French made him consider buying a home in the French capital.
He wrote:
“Still in Paris!
Watching my kids speak French so effortlessly makes me think… maybe it’s time to own a crib here in Paris.
Just a thought.
JESUS IS LORD”
His post sparked debate after an X user, @sambuddybest, asked:
“Hope they can speak Igbo, too?”
Responding, Peter wrote:
“And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”
As criticism continued, the singer defended his family’s choices, arguing that many of those attacking him would gladly relocate abroad or raise their children overseas if given the opportunity.
He wrote:
“Meanwhile, many of the same people criticizing me would jump at the chance to get foreign citizenship or raise their own children abroad if they had the opportunity.
With everything going on in Nigeria, your biggest concern is whether my children speak Nigerian languages?
Focus on the real issues and let people raise their families the way they choose. Ndi ala”
In another post, he added:
“With everything going on in Nigeria, your biggest concern is whether my children speak Nigerian languages?
Out of all the real issues facing the country, this is what keeps you awake?

Peter also insisted that parents should be free to decide how they raise their children.
“When it’s your turn, teach your own kids all the languages in Nigeria if that’s your choice.
As for me and my family, we’re good. Go and find another place to pour your frustration.
Again, what exactly do you stand to gain if my children speak Nigerian languages? How does that improve your life?

Amid the backlash, another user defended the singer, pointing out that he never singled out any ethnic language and reminding critics that his wife is Yoruba.
The user wrote:
“i’m happy as he never said anything about igbo or yoruba but nigeria language lol. you people no get sense for coming after mr p forgetting his wife is yoruba.
don’t be surprised that his children might know how to speak both languages.”
Agreeing with the comment, Peter replied:
“Dem don turn am to tribalism!
Some even say when I get old, I go regret am.
Regret wetin? Say I no fit communicate with my own children when I get old?
Some people for this app really need to relax.
