Seun Kuti left Peller and Jarvis’ white wedding shortly after the event’s MC made a comment that appeared to offend him.
Videos circulating online showed the MC joking that Wizkid is bigger than the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The remark prompted Seun to tell those around him, “We are in the wrong place,” before he calmly walked out of the venue.
The incident quickly became a talking point, given Seun’s consistent defence of his father’s legacy whenever comparisons are made between Fela and Wizkid.
Over the years, the Afrobeat singer has openly challenged such comparisons and has had several public disagreements with Wizkid and some of the singer’s supporters over debates about their influence and impact on music.
Although the wedding celebration carried on, Seun’s departure stood out as one of the event’s most talked-about moments, with his statement, “We are in the wrong place,” reflecting his decision not to remain after the MC’s remark.
