Reality TV star Caroline Hutchings has reportedly received a pre-action legal notice from lawyers representing Sophia Momodu over an alleged defamatory Snapchat post.
According to the legal notice, Sophia claimed that although her name was not mentioned in the post, many people believed the publication was about her. The post was allegedly shared across blogs and social media platforms, leading to cyberbullying, insults, and damage to her reputation.
The lawyers further stated that Sophia privately contacted Caroline on July 3, 2026, requesting clarification if the post was not directed at her. They alleged that Caroline neither responded nor issued a public clarification, allowing the public perception to persist.
As part of the demands, Sophia’s legal team gave Caroline 48 hours to publish an unequivocal retraction, issue an unreserved public apology on Snapchat and all other social media platforms under her control, and clearly state that the publication was not directed at or intended to refer to Sophia Momodu.
The lawyers also demanded compensation for the alleged emotional distress and reputational harm suffered by Sophia, as well as a written undertaking that Caroline would not make any further statements capable of being interpreted as referring to or defaming her.
They warned that failure to comply could result in legal action seeking a declaration that the publication was false and defamatory, an order compelling a public retraction and apology, ₦10 billion in general and aggravated damages, a perpetual injunction restraining Caroline from making similar publications, and ₦50 million in legal costs.
The legal team added that the dispute could still be resolved amicably if both parties agree to engage in discussions before court proceedings commence.
