Spain’s World Cup triumph was capped off with a clean sweep of the tournament’s top individual honours, as Rodri, Pau Cubarsi and Unai Simón were recognised for their outstanding performances after Sunday’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina.
Having already won UEFA Euro 2024, La Roja secured their second FIFA World Cup title, becoming only the fourth nation to complete a European Championship and World Cup double in successive major tournaments.
Rodri was named the tournament’s Best Player after another dominant campaign. The midfielder topped the charts for successful passes, attempted and won tackles, while also ranking among the competition’s best in duels won.
Teenage defender Pau Cubarsi claimed the Best Young Player award after impressing throughout the tournament. In the final, he led all players in touches, completed passes, passing accuracy, line-breaking passes and clearances, delivering a composed display beyond his years.
Goalkeeper Unai Simón was awarded the Golden Glove after anchoring Spain’s formidable defence. He made just 10 saves across eight matches as Spain conceded the fewest chances of any team, allowing only 2.4 expected goals throughout the tournament.
Spain also made history by becoming the first nation to start two teenagers, Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal, in a FIFA World Cup final.
