Nigeria’s Super Falcons have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt 6-2 in their final Group C fixture in Morocco.
The reigning African champions produced a clinical attacking display to secure the victory and book their place in the knockout stage.
Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead in the 21st minute, calmly converting a penalty awarded after a VAR review. The goal was her first of the tournament.
Gift Monday, who came on before halftime in place of Oshoala, doubled Nigeria’s advantage during first-half stoppage time.
Egypt pulled one back before the interval through Nadine Ghazi, who converted from the penalty spot after Michelle Alozie was adjudged to have committed a foul inside the box.
Nigeria extended their lead in the second half when Uchenna Kanu finished off a pass from Rinsola Babajide in the 57th minute.
Christy Ucheibe made it 4-1 from the penalty spot after another VAR intervention awarded Nigeria a second spot-kick.
Ghazi scored again for Egypt in the 84th minute to reduce the deficit, but captain Rasheedat Ajibade restored Nigeria’s three-goal cushion by converting the Super Falcons’ third penalty deep into stoppage time.
Joy Omewa added the sixth goal in the closing moments to complete an impressive 6-2 victory.
The win ensured Nigeria finished second in Group C behind Zambia, who defeated Malawi 2-1, with both teams progressing to the quarter-finals.
