President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri and take full charge of efforts to restore calm following the latest terrorist attacks in the state.
Reacting in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja, the president said the reports emerging from Maiduguri were deeply disturbing. He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives, extended sympathy to those injured, and assured residents of Borno State of his administration’s support.
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres.
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.”
Tinubu described the coordinated assaults as acts of desperation by insurgent groups, insisting that both military personnel and civilian task forces would decisively suppress the threats.
He also disclosed that he recently approved additional equipment and operational support for security and intelligence agencies to strengthen their operations.
“This effort is already in progress,” he said. “Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured.”
Reaffirming his government’s resolve, the president declared that terrorists would have no refuge anywhere in the country.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear.”
