Nigerian track queen Tobi Amusan delivered a brilliant performance on Wednesday to hand Nigeria its first gold medal at the Senior Athletics Championships taking place in Accra, Ghana.

The reigning world record holder stormed to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles event on Day 2 of the tournament, comfortably beating the rest of the field to continue her dominance in African athletics.

Fellow Nigerian athlete Adaobi Tabugbo also made the podium after securing bronze in the same race, adding to Team Nigeria’s growing medal tally at the championships.

The triumph earned Amusan her third African Championships gold medal, with the award presented by Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics.

Earlier during the competition, Amusan advised upcoming athletes to remain fearless and believe in their abilities despite criticism or discouragement.

“Don’t let anyone talk fear into your dreams. I remember when I started hurdling, I heard a lot of ‘nobody is going to do well as a hurdler from Africa.’ And guess who is the world record holder: me.”
