Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United in a deal worth around £85 million.
The 21-year-old is set to join Roberto De Zerbi’s squad ahead of the new season after Spurs agreed to meet West Ham’s asking price. The transfer is expected to become official once the remaining paperwork is finalised.
Fernandes attracted interest from several top European clubs following an impressive campaign, but Tottenham ultimately won the race for his signature.
The midfielder made 38 appearances for West Ham last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists. He remains under contract with the Hammers until 2028, but the club agreed to sanction his departure after accepting Tottenham’s offer.
The move represents a major statement of intent from Spurs as De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with Fernandes expected to play a key role in the club’s midfield.
