Victor Osimhen has been criticised following a heated incident during Galatasaray’s 2-1 pre-season defeat to Villarreal at RAMS Park.
The Nigerian striker became involved in a confrontation with Villarreal defender Santiago Mouriño after the Uruguay international used his body to stop Osimhen from advancing into a dangerous area of the penalty box.
The disagreement did not end with the initial challenge, as Osimhen confronted Mouriño before teammates stepped in to prevent the situation from escalating.
Villarreal manager Iñigo Pérez was particularly unhappy with the incident and argued that Osimhen deserved a red card rather than the yellow card he received.
“There is not much to say about the football, because the opposing team didn’t come onto the field to play football, but to fight,” Pérez said.
“Osimhen attacked our player out of nowhere and only got a yellow card.”
Despite the controversy, Osimhen had earlier found the net for Galatasaray. He levelled the score in the fifth minute by heading home Eren Elmalı’s cross after Ayoze Pérez had given Villarreal an early advantage.
Georges Mikautadze then restored Villarreal’s lead before half-time, with the visitors maintaining their advantage through the remainder of the match to claim a 2-1 victory.
