X has announced a major change to its creator monetisation system, discontinuing the Revenue Sharing programme and replacing it with a new scheme aimed specifically at rewarding original content.

The platform made the announcement on Friday through its X Creators account, introducing what it called the Original Content Rewards Programme.

The new initiative is designed to compensate creators who contribute original ideas, expertise, journalism, analysis, creativity and valuable commentary to conversations on X.

“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X,” the company announced.

As part of the change, X has immediately stopped accepting new applications for its Revenue Sharing programme. Creators who are already enrolled will remain on the existing system until September 7, 2026.

Those existing participants are expected to receive three final payments. X said payouts will be made on August 14 and August 28, followed by a final settlement around September 11 covering eligible earnings accumulated through September 7.

Creators who meet the requirements will be able to apply for the new programme from September 8.

X said the first payout under the new system is scheduled for August 28, while creators moving over from the previous Revenue Sharing programme are expected to receive their first payment under the new structure on September 25.

Under the new arrangement, earnings will be linked to qualified impressions generated by a creator’s original posts, with payments issued every two weeks.

X said qualified impressions will consist of unique views from Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline when at least half of the post is visible.

However, several types of traffic will be excluded, including repeated views from the same account, paid or promoted impressions, artificially generated traffic and fraudulent views.

Creators must meet several conditions to qualify. They must be at least 18 years old, live in a supported country, have an account in good standing and subscribe to X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business.

They must also have at least 500 verified followers and record a minimum of 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the previous 90 days.

Regular publication of original material will also be required to remain eligible.

According to X, qualifying material can include original threads, videos, memes, graphics, illustrations, reporting, commentary, analysis and creative reactions that provide value to discussions on the platform.

Simply sharing another person’s content will not be enough. X said reposted material and minor alterations such as cropping, applying filters, adding borders or watermarks, or placing simple text over existing content will not qualify.

The company also excluded copied material, automated posts, misinformation and content published without the appropriate rights or permissions.

Creators who breach the programme’s rules could have their participation suspended temporarily or removed permanently, X warned.
