The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki, has led 12 fellow lawmakers in defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Moriki made the announcement on Monday during a plenary session in Gusau, after submitting their resignation letters to the House. The defection comes shortly after Governor Dauda Lawal left the PDP for the APC.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the APC National Secretariat will formally receive Governor Lawal into the party on Tuesday, March 24. Vice President Kashim Shettima, the APC national leadership, and former Zamfara governors are expected to attend the ceremony.
The lawmakers joining the APC alongside the governor include Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu (Gummi II), Majority Leader Bello Mazawaje (Tsafe East), and Chief Whip Rilwanu Nagambo (Anka), among others.
