Zinedine Zidane is set to become the new head coach of the France national team, replacing Didier Deschamps following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Deschamps’ tenure came to an end after France’s 2-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night. He had previously announced that he would step down after the tournament.
His final match in charge will be France’s third-place playoff against either England or Argentina this weekend.
Confirming the development, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on X: “OFFICIAL: Didier Deschamps’ cycle as France head coach comes to an end. It’s over.
“Last game for the 3rd and 4th place then his goodbye… and the start of Zinedine Zidane era.”
