Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected political alliances or arrangements they believe could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
The governors also reaffirmed their commitment to the APC and pledged to support the party’s candidates across all levels of the elections.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, made the position known on Monday night following a closed-door meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Uzodimma said the governors would not support any political arrangement capable of creating divided loyalty, confusion or competing interests within the APC.
He explained that the forum’s priority was to support candidates officially fielded by the APC rather than candidates or interests outside the party.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party,” Uzodimma said.
The declaration comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with several opposition figures and parties exploring possible alliances.
The APC governors’ position signals their intention to maintain a unified campaign structure focused on securing Tinubu’s re-election and strengthening the party’s candidates nationwide.
