The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular Asaba-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, whose death is currently being investigated.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, stating that the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
According to police findings, the 40-year-old allegedly lured the victim to Asaba with promises of mentoring her in content creation and helping her earn money from her TikTok and Facebook accounts.
Human rights activist Israel Joe, who first made the allegations public, claimed the victim travelled from Ughelli after responding to the suspect’s online advert offering social media mentorship.
He alleged that the victim later met the content creator at a hotel in Asaba for the training, where she was sexually assaulted despite making it clear through WhatsApp messages that she was a virgin and not interested in any sexual relationship.
Joe said the young woman later informed her twin sister and mother about the alleged assault after returning home.
The activist further alleged that the victim was discouraged from pursuing the case after being told the suspect was influential. According to him, the emotional distress that followed led her to ingest a poisonous substance, resulting in her death.
He also claimed the suspect was arrested after he reported the matter to the police, adding that investigators are examining WhatsApp conversations allegedly exchanged between the suspect and the deceased.
The Delta State Police Command said the suspect remains in custody as detectives continue investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.
