The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has brought criminal charges against Professor Bello Abubakar, a consultant oncologist at the National Hospital, Abuja, over an alleged false medical report linked to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail application.
The anti-corruption agency filed a four-count charge, alleging that the doctor knowingly prepared a misleading medical document to support El-Rufai’s request for bail on health grounds in a case pending before the Kaduna State High Court.
According to the ICPC, the report, titled Medical Report and Expert Opinion for Urgent Medical Intervention and dated June 10, 2026, was sworn before a Commissioner for Oaths and later tendered in court despite allegedly containing false information.
The commission further alleged that Abubakar abused his position by issuing the report, worked with one Aliyu Bala to produce information used in a further affidavit supporting the bail application, and falsely presented the document as an official National Hospital report without the hospital’s authorisation.
The ICPC said the alleged offences contravene provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and the Penal Code.
