The Nigerian Army has announced the capture of Private Mohammed Yusuf, the soldier who was recently declared wanted over allegations of supplying military uniforms and other accoutrements to terrorists and criminal groups.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, Yusuf was arrested by troops of the 7 Provost Group of Operation HADIN KAI at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri as he allegedly attempted to escape to the Republic of Cameroon.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said the arrest followed credible intelligence, noting that the suspect had abandoned his duty post on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly hid in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the help of an associate.
Announcing the arrest, the Army stated:
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a soldier recently declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements, in a sustained effort to dismantle criminal support networks.”
Goni further disclosed:
“He had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on 23 July 2026 over the same allegations. The suspect was apprehended at Jidari Bus Stop, Maiduguri, while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect absconded from his unit on 7 July 2026 and subsequently relocated to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate.”
The Army said the successful operation highlights the strength of its intelligence network and its determination to ensure that any personnel found undermining military discipline or national security are brought to justice.
“The suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where further investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of his activities and identify other individuals who may have been involved,” Goni added.
