A commercial bus driver, Ifeanyi Okwuaja, has been taken into police custody over allegations that he intentionally caused a road crash that left one passenger dead and several others injured during a journey from Onitsha to Lagos.

According to reports, Okwuaja, who works with Abia City Mass Transit, had a confrontation with the passenger sitting in the front seat earlier in the trip. Witnesses claimed the disagreement became heated, with the driver allegedly threatening the victim.

It was further alleged that the driver later rammed the bus into a stationary truck, striking the side where the passenger was seated. The passenger reportedly died instantly, while several other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries.

After the crash, Okwuaja allegedly fled the scene and returned to his hometown in Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State.

He was later tracked down by police officers in collaboration with officials of the transport company and subsequently arrested. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
