A young man identified as Ibrahim Mbaye has reportedly died after allegedly being tortured by friends who accused him of stealing an iPhone 16 at an off-campus apartment in the Ring Road area of Jos, Plateau State.
According to reports, Ibrahim had spent the night at a friend’s apartment behind the City of David area. The next morning, his host allegedly claimed that his iPhone 16 was missing and accused Ibrahim of taking it, insisting he was the only possible suspect because they had been alone in the room.
The accusation reportedly led to a brutal assault, with Ibrahim allegedly beaten, humiliated and subjected to severe torture.
Reports further claim that after the assault, he was locked inside a room while a nurse was invited to examine him. The nurse allegedly confirmed that he had died.
It was further alleged that those involved attempted to take his body to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Emergency Unit to make the incident appear as a medical emergency before police were alerted.
The suspects have since been arrested, while disturbing photos showing Ibrahim with a swollen face have circulated widely on social media, sparking calls for justice and a thorough investigation into the incident.
