Peter Okoye, better known as Mr P, has become emotional while recounting the difficult circumstances surrounding his wife Lola Omotayo’s first pregnancy in the latest episode of his ongoing video series.
The singer, who was 27 at the time, alleged that his brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye, strongly opposed the pregnancy and attempted to persuade him to terminate it.
Peter said he chose to personally reveal the pregnancy during his acceptance speech at the Soundcity Awards because he did not want the news to come from someone else.
According to him, after receiving the award, he thanked God, his fans and those who had supported him before dedicating the recognition to Lola, whom he described as the mother of his unborn child.
He alleged that his brothers immediately walked out, claiming that his announcement could negatively affect their music career.
“When I was 27 years old, my girlfriend then, Lola, became pregnant.
“I didn’t want the news to break from someone else, so I decided to announce it myself. We attended the Soundcity Awards, and after receiving the award, I dedicated it to God Almighty, our fans, and everyone who had supported us.
“Lastly, I dedicated it to the mother of my unborn child. Immediately after that, Jude and Paul walked out, saying my announcement would ruin our career.
“They insisted that Lola should abort the baby. They even forged an email to frame her, claiming the child wasn’t mine and accusing her of using the pregnancy to trap me.”
Peter broke down in tears while recalling the experience, describing the period as one of the most painful chapters of his life.
He further alleged that efforts were made to create doubts about his son’s paternity and portray Lola as having ulterior motives for becoming pregnant.
The singer said the situation was particularly painful because the people involved were members of his own family.
Despite the alleged opposition, Peter said he remained committed to Lola and decided to continue with their relationship and embrace the pregnancy.
