Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has raised allegations against unnamed individuals in the Nigerian movie industry, accusing them of using the title of her unreleased film, Queen of Guns, for another movie.
The actress expressed her frustration in a social media video, claiming that some people have repeatedly copied her ideas, style and projects.
Okorie said Queen of Guns is yet to be released on YouTube, Netflix or in cinemas, adding that her Manchester fans are expected to be the first audience to watch the movie before it is taken to other cities.
She alleged that she recently searched for the title on YouTube and found an older movie being promoted as Queen of Guns.
According to her, the people behind the movie allegedly used recent photographs from the production of her film to design a poster before attaching the title to a movie she claimed was made more than a decade ago.
“They have gone to use my recent pictures that I was using to shoot the movie Queen of Guns and then they made a poster and brought old movie that they have shot over 10 years ago and called it Queen of Guns,” she said.
The actress questioned why the alleged move was made, describing it as an act of wickedness.
Okorie also claimed that she had invested almost N100 million in her own production and had trademarked the Queen of Guns title because of concerns about others using it.
“That movie is what I shot with almost 100 million naira and mine is trademarked. Mine is not released anywhere but because you see that the name has travelled far, all of you got that place,” she alleged.
She further accused some colleagues of copying her work and said she has deliberately limited her interactions with certain people within the industry.
Okorie maintained that her version of Queen of Guns remains unreleased and reiterated that the project will first be shown to her Manchester audience before screenings are taken to other states and cities.
