Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has insisted that his passion for dancing will not stop, despite the criticism he receives over his public dance moves.
The governor spoke at the Arise Town Hall in Osogbo on Tuesday as he campaigned ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke argued that dancing is simply part of his personal life and has never prevented him from carrying out his responsibilities in government. He said people should judge him by his work in office rather than his entertainment moments.
He also suggested that some of his critics were simply envious because they could not dance like him.
While defending his administration, Adeleke pointed to several projects, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads across Osun. He said some of the roads had also been equipped with solar-powered streetlights to improve security and encourage economic activity.
The governor further claimed that more than 200 primary healthcare facilities had been renovated and upgraded, with electricity and clean water supplied to them.
He maintained that professionals had inspected his projects and certified them as meeting the necessary standards.
Adeleke also expressed confidence ahead of Saturday’s election, saying he believed his relationship with the people and the work of his administration would help him secure victory.
He dismissed concerns over the number of governors supporting the APC candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, arguing that those governors would not be casting votes in Osun.
Addressing the controversy over his dancing, Adeleke said:
“Dancing is a hobby. That doesn’t disturb and affect my work. Go and check it. You will know how much I’ve done.
“They are jealous of me because they cannot dance in the first place.
“Now, when you come to my office, I’m a very prudent person. And I’m a very serious person. There’s time for everything. There’s time to dance and there’s time to work.
“Nobody, I repeat, nobody will stop me from dancing.
“If they can’t dance, I can teach them how to dance.”
On his administration’s road projects, he said:
“As I’m speaking to you, I did not only build roads across Osun, I installed them with solar lights. This we did to provide security and enhance economic development.”
He also said:
“As of today, we have upgraded and rehabilitated over 200 primary healthcare facilities to global standards, equipped with electricity and clean water.”
Speaking about the election, Adeleke added:
“My people love me.
“I am not worried that I am contesting against a party that has 34 Governors, I am a bulldozer. If they like they should bring all their Governors, they are all my friends. They are not the one to come and vote here, they can only support their party.”
